The Perfect Fit Guide: How to Measure for Velvetkay Press-on Nails

One size does not fit all.

At Velvetkay, our press-on nails are handcrafted to mimic a salon-quality gel manicure. To ensure they look natural, feel comfortable, and last for weeks, finding your perfect fit is the most critical step.

Since all our sets are made-to-order and sales are final for hygienic reasons, we highly recommend spending 5 minutes to measure your nails before purchasing. Here is your step-by-step guide to finding your custom size.

Step 1: Choose Your Method

You don't need professional tools. You can use a soft measuring tape or just a piece of paper.

Method 1: Soft Measuring Tape (Easiest)

  1. Place a soft measuring tape horizontally across the widest part of your natural nail.
  2. Make sure the tape sits flat against the curve of your nail (snug, but not pressing down too hard).
  3. Read the measurement in millimeters (mm) from side wall to side wall.
  4. Repeat for all 10 fingers.

Method 2: Paper & Ruler (No Tape Needed)

  1. Cut a small, rectangular strip of paper.
  2. Wrap the strip across the widest part of your nail.
  3. Use a pen to mark the start and end points where the paper meets your nail edges.
  4. Place the paper strip against a standard ruler to measure the distance between the two marks.
  5. Write down your measurements in millimeters (mm).

Step 2: Find Your Size

Compare your measurements (Thumb, Index, Middle, Ring, Pinky) with our standard size chart below.

Size Thumb Index Middle Ring Pinky
XS 14mm 10mm 11mm 10mm 8mm
S 15mm 11mm 12mm 11mm 9mm
M 16mm 12mm 13mm 12mm 10mm
L 17mm 13mm 14mm 13mm 11mm

Step 3: Pro Tips for the Perfect Fit

  • When in doubt, size UP: If your measurement falls between two sizes (e.g., 15.5mm), always choose the larger size (16mm). You can easily file down the sides of a larger press-on for a custom fit, but you cannot make a small nail bigger.
  • Measure both hands: It is common for fingers on your left and right hands to have slightly different widths.
  • Don't match the chart? If your measurements don't align with XS, S, M, or L, select "Custom Size" (if available) or contact our support team before ordering.
